Assessment
The SOE will collect and
archive information on individual candidate performance and satisfaction. These
data may include candidate GPA, time to completion, satisfaction, endorsements
added, review of curricular units, and reports of internal/external program
evaluators. Each candidate will present a capstone public presentation, and stand
for an oral defense before the candidate’s graduate committee. Each candidate
will be periodically assessed at predetermined points in the program:
1.
Admissions requirements (to assess that the candidate has an established
record of meeting the Michigan entry level standards for Michigan teachers.

After 12 completed hours of the program: Checkpoint A
A.
Satisfactory: minimal GPA must be 3.00; must have satisfactory responses
on Standards for Professional and Ethical Behavior; satisfactorily completed a
proposal for the capstone research project (TE 695)—Continue in program
B.
Unsatisfactory: Repeat courses below “B-”; and/or successfully complete
a Plan of Assistance for Professional Behavior; and/or work with advisor to
satisfactorily complete the proposal for the capstone research project; and/or a
combination of these measures at remediation—at successful completion of
remediation, continue in program
3.
After 24 hours of the program: Checkpoint B
A.
Satisfactory: minimal GPA must be 3.00; must have satisfactory responses
on Standards for Professional and Ethical Behavior; approval of advisor on
progress on capstone research project
B.
Unsatisfactory: Repeat courses below “B-”; and/or successfully complete
a Plan of Assistance for Professional and Ethical Behavior; and/or work with
advisor to satisfactorily complete the proposal for the capstone research
project; and/or a combination of these measures at remediation—at successful
completion of remediation, continue in program
4.
After 36 hours of the program: Final Assessments
A.
Satisfactory: minimal GPA must be 3.00; must have satisfactory responses
on Standards for Professional and Ethical Behavior; approval of advisor on
completion of capstone research project; successful completion of final oral
exam
B.
Unsatisfactory: Repeat courses below “B-”; and/or successfully complete
a Plan of Assistance for Professional and Ethical Behavior; and/or work with
advisor to satisfactorily complete the capstone research project, and/or one
repeat of final oral exam for successful completion
At the course level, we
will evaluate courses individually through student evaluations, faculty review
and feedback, and alignment with state level content standards. Students will
be assigned letter grades for curriculum units and projects in those courses,
and must achieve a minimum grade of B- to receive graduate credit. All
syllabuses for program must align learning objectives with the National Board
for Professional Teaching Standards’ five domains. At the programmatic level,
the SOE will follow the protocols implemented for the recent university-level
NCA self-study.
