Degree Audits for Teaching Programs

Photo (left): These happy students started and completed their student teaching in the SAME semester, following a new policy approved by the university which has all students complete a one-semester (minimum) student teaching placement. Those wishing to extend their placement may do so into a second semester.

Teacher Education Check-off v2.d Revised Oct 1, 2008. Effective with the FALL2008 elementary education majors/minors are limited to the core curriculum areas of Math, Integrated Science, Social Studies and Language Arts (English for now).

With the change to one-semester student teaching all programs will become "comprehensive" meaning that one semester of student teaching will be a graduation requirement for all new students effective in the Fall 2008.

From my first year to my last, I was able to complete field work, which provided me with four years of teaching experience in a variety of classrooms. Throughout this time I was also immersed in educational theory, and by the time I completed my internship, I felt like I had already completed my first year of teaching. The academic programs are continually reviewed and may change to reflect changing Michigan standards. You need to follow the audit plan based on the timeframe in which you were admitted, or declared a major change to this program. For example, if you first attend the university in the fall of 2005 as a chemistry major you would follow an audit from that time, not the summer 2006 audit. However, if you change to biology in October 2006 you would then follow the fall_2006 biology audit, not the earlier versions even though you first entered the university in 2005. Academic departments are asked to provide copies of audit sheets in order to keep this page current, in order to permit the school of education to provide an archival site for audits necessary to assist current students complete their academic programs.
